Great posting Jessica. I remember when I was first on the board. I think by the 3rd board meeting we had, I started to not quite feel like such an idiot!

Love the reference to the definition of volunteering "working without getting paid," although it obviously means direct compensation. I can certainly vouch for all the indirect benefits I have received from volunteering for the mRA: Notariety (both for myself and my company), clients, and most importantly, a chance to give back to an organization that definately gave me a lot without expecting much of anything in return. I came into this industry knowing nothing about Marketing Research other than what I had studied in college decades ago, but through the contacts I met in the MRA, and the content provided by the MRA, I learned so much - so quickly.

Serving on the Board continues to teach me about the industry as I learn more about organization as a whole and our member, and with a greater understanding from the INSIDE as to what makes the local and National MRA work, I have a greater appreciation for all of it, and revised expectation as to what the MRA IS and ISN'T.

Thanks Jessica, for your posting and for your service to the Chapter!
